Allan offers clients a wealth of experience as a corporate and commercial lawyer working with cutting-edge technology companies, universities and research institutes, as well as investors in innovation.
His focus is on helping clients develop, protect and commercialise new technologies and innovations. This includes structuring, negotiating and drafting international licence agreements for New Zealand organisations. Allan has advised on numerous research and development collaborations. He is also an expert in trade mark protection and branding issues.
As a previous partner of AJ Park, Allan established the firm’s commercial team with Scott. Before joining AJ Park, Allan was a partner at Minter Ellison Rudd Watts, where he established the firm’s intellectual property team.
The Asia Pacific Legal 500 directory termed Allan “without peer as a commercialisation expert; he’s very practical and client focused”. Since 2009, Best Lawyers® has recommended Allan as one of New Zealand’s top IP lawyers. And in 2010 he was named one of this country’s top 30 external commercial lawyers by the Corporate Lawyers Association of New Zealand.
Scott is an experienced corporate and commercial lawyer specialising in technology and intellectual property. He works with clients to develop, commercialise and protect their technologies and innovations. He has expertise in international licensing and other commercial contracts, and helping clients with corporate structuring and capital raising.
Early in his career, Scott worked as a corporate commercial lawyer in Auckland before spending three years as in-house lawyer for a large and innovative UK retailer.
Returning home, Scott worked for eight years at A J Park, where he met and helped to establish the commercial team with Allan.
Scott has written articles on innovation and intellectual property law for local and international publications. He’s recognised as an intellectual property and technology commercialisation expert – leading seminars to professional organisations, including the Licensing Executives Society Australia and New Zealand, the Corporate Lawyers Association of New Zealand, the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand and the Auckland District Law Society.
